Internship

AFTER FINISHING MY MASTERS IN EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY IN ENGLAND, I COMPLETED A 3 MONTHS INTERNSHIP UNDER WOODY CLIFFORDS. THE INVALUABLE EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE THAT I GAINED HELPED ME TO LAND A HEAD STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING POSITION WITH A TOP PROFESSIONAL CRICKED TEAM. WITH WOODY I WAS EXPOSED TO A WHOLE NEW SIDE OF PROFESSIONALISM. THE WAY THAT SPORTSWEST CARES AND DEALS WITH EACH INDIVIDUAL ATHLETIC IS TRULY AMAZING!

In the fall of 2007, I met Woody while coaching baseball at Pepperdine. I was so
intrigued by his training program that I started to workout with Woody in my spare
time, and ultimately began my internship that same fall. Not only was I learning, I
was also in the best shape of my life. It was exciting to learn how and why these
programs were written by actually doing the training alongside Woody. By having to
see and do each movement before I could teach it, I gained respect for the
movement, and started to understand the function of each part of our training. It
was also extremely beneficial to know that each movement had a purpose inside the
program that was based on physiological principles and scientific research, rather
than hearsay and conjecture. I was so impressed, I became a fulltime worker, and
have been ever since. Leaving full time collegiate coaching was a difficult choice, but
Woody gave me the chance to work in an environment rooted in innovation and
improvement. This is the training of the future, and I glad I can be a part of it at
SportsWest, today.

DURING MY INTERNSHIP WITH WOODY I LEARNED LOT ABOUT THE BIOMECHANICS OF MOVEMENT AND TESTING AND EVALUATION OF ATHLETICS. MOST IMPORTANTLY, HE TAKES TIME TO TEACH YOU HOW AND WHY YOU CAN APPLY THESE SCIENCE BASED PRINCIPLES INTO ATHLETIC DEVELOPMENT FOR OPTIMAL GAINS AND INJURY PREVENTION. IT IS CERTAINLY NOT JUST A PLACE WHERE YOU ARE MINDLESSLY CARRYING OUT INSTRUCTIONS; IT IS AN ACTIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT WITH ONE OF THE BEST MENTORS AROUND.
